| The
high corrosion resistance of Chrome 6 has led to its widespread
application within the automotive industry. But there is
an increased awareness that Chrome 6 has harmful environmental
and health & safety effects.
Because of this, the EU will be enforcing
the 'End of Vehicle Life Directive' to reduce Chrome 6
to no more than 2 grams per vehicle. Consequently suppliers
will need to guarantee that plated surfaces are free from
Chrome 6, which means that metal finishers must be prepared
to make significant changes to their processes.
AST has already developed Chrome 6
FREE passivates for its customers. This offers enhanced
corrosion protection, without any environmental impact,
and is available across all of AST's ASTEC brands. It
is fully compliant with the EU End of Vehicle Life Directive.
These passivates are available in yellow,
clear and black finishes, all of which are now in full
production on AST's automated lines. More information
about Chrome 6 FREE passivates can be found in the FQA's
section.
